STAY WELL THIS WINTER
North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSC Partnership) have joined forces to help Greater Manchester residents stay well this winter.
A booklet containing winter wellbeing advice and top tips on staying healthy, produced by GMHSC Partnership, has been shared with people travelling on NWAS’ Patient Transport Service (PTS).
Over 1.5 million patient journeys are undertaken by PTS every year, supporting patients across Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and Cumbria, to get to and from non-emergency medical appointments. This initiative is centred around making the most of each and every one of these individual patient contacts.
The Greater Manchester winter health advice was also shared with hundreds of people at a recent NWAS community engagement at the Trafford Centre. Visitors got involved with CPR demonstrations, mini health checks and had the chance to see a rapid response vehicle up close.
Nathan Hearn, PTS Contract Delivery Manager, said: “The winter months can really take their toll on people, especially those who are already vulnerable, but being well prepared means there’s less chance of getting caught out. PTS staff will be making the most of time spent transporting patients to and from appointments by taking the opportunity to hand out the booklets.
“The nature of our service means we spend time with many different patients every day. We recognised that, with the help of GMHSC Partnership, we could make even better use of that time by helping to share important health message and information. By sharing vital health advice with patients in this way, it is hoped that it will mean less people will fall ill over the festive period, the busiest time for the NHS.”
The initiative is part of Transforming Patient Care, a two-year programme that will see NWAS make a number of developments to services to improve care for patients.
